My First Experience With Agentforce

Agentforce was announced at Dreamforce 2024, and it caught my attention. I was curious about how Salesforce was rethinking AI-driven productivity, as Reditus consultants always stay up to date with the latest changes from Salesforce. To fully understand the concept, our consultants go through the Agentforce certification to implement it in further projects.

If you are new to Agentforce and curious about its capabilities, this article is right for you.

What’s so special about Agentforce?

AI is changing fast, with new advanced tools that can write and answer questions. Salesforce’s Agentforce uses large language models and generative AI as well, but it’s more than just a basic helper.

Salesforce came up with Agentforce which is a smart, independent AI team for your business. These AI agents can do many jobs on their own, like handling customer service, finding sales leads, coaching sales people, acting as a personal shopper, or assisting with your marketing campaigns.

This means Agentforce is much more advanced than a regular chatbot. It works by itself to help your business be more productive and make customers happier.

Why is Agentforce a game changer?

First: It works 24/7 without human intervention.

Customers want fast answers, anytime, on any channel — and Agentforce delivers. It works across chat, SMS, web, apps, WhatsApp, Slack, Apple Business Chat — super flexible.

Second: It pulls live data from Salesforce and Data Cloud in real time.

This means it can generate responses that match your brand voice because they are based on your actual business data. In other words, it can operate as an integral part of your business. For example, Agentforce knows a customer’s loyalty status, last conversation, and the exact status of their current order upfront. This way, the customer doesn’t have to explain all the order details to get an answer.

The best part? You don’t need to be a developer.

This no-code approach means your time-to-market is drastically reduced. Your developers can focus on other critical projects, while business analysts and department heads, the people who actually know the processes best, can build and refine the AI’s behavior themselves, reducing bottlenecks.

And most importantly: It can handle lots of customer questions at once.

Think FAQs, order updates, basic troubleshooting and it keeps getting smarter with time. That means less pressure on human agents, faster responses, and lower service costs up to 30% without sacrificing customer satisfaction.

Let me give you an example

Imagine a fast-growing, B2C “Smart Home” furnishings company. Their latest product, the smart lamp, has just gone viral, but this success is creating a new problem: their sales and support channels are overwhelmed. New buyers are asking about order statuses, while others have technical setup issues. Hiring dozens of new agents is slow and expensive. They need to scale their service, not just their sales, which is where they turn to Agentforce.

Let’s break down the customer journey for a better understanding.

Clara lands on the Smart Home website, intrigued by the smart lamp. Without Agentforce, Clara might hunt for an FAQ page and leave. A potential sale would be lost. With Agentforce, Clara can get an instant, accurate answer. She avoids frustration and has a positive brand interaction, capturing her as a high-intent lead.

Impressed, Clara decides to buy the products. In a typical scenario, a sales rep would have to manually create a quote. Instead, Agentforce instantly generates a personalized quote and even identifies an opportunity to upsell.

Once the order is placed, Clara waits for its arrival. To enhance her buying experience, Agentforce is available 24/7 on WhatsApp, Messenger, or SMS. It knows exactly who she is and provides a personalized answer about her order.

If a problem occurs that Agentforce cannot solve, the case is routed to a human agent. Eventually, Clara is delighted, satisfied and the business has excellent customer service thanks to Agentforce.

Your team of agents

You can get an agent focused on specific topics like sales, marketing, or shopping.

For example:

  • Sales Development Agent: Schedules meetings, follows up with leads, and sends reminders.
  • Sales Coach: Allows your reps to practice pitches, handle objections, and negotiate in simulated role-plays.
  • Campaign Assistant: Builds and runs marketing campaigns, segments your audience, writes content, and tracks performance.
  • Personal Shopper: Helps customers find the right products and makes personalized recommendations in real time.

And if you’re using Revenue Cloud, you already offer a guided experience to your sales reps. This can be further supercharged with the power of your AI Agent.

Agentforce can:

  • Create quotes and opportunities
  • Adjust pricing or quantities
  • Generate quote documents
  • Create and activate orders
  • Preview and generate invoices.

But isn’t this just another chatbot?

On the surface, yes — natural language, customer support use cases. But the magic is in how it works.

Most chatbots are:

  • Scripted
  • Rigid (“Sorry, I don’t understand that”)
  • Limited to one narrow flow

Agentforce uses large language models. It understands freeform natural language. It doesn’t just respond — it predicts accurately and acts accordingly.

Dangers and how Salesforce protects your data.

As a business leader, you are probably wondering: “How do I control what it says and ensure it’s safe for my brand and my customers?”

When you give an AI the power to generate responses freely, you open the door to several risks:

  • The AI can “hallucinate” by making up facts, policies, or figures that are completely wrong.
  • Also, where does your sensitive customer data go? Is it sent to public models like ChatGPT? Is your confidential business information being used to train a third-party AI?
  • The AI could generate harmful, biased, or toxic content, causing significant brand damage.

Therefore, Salesforce built a safety and security system called the Einstein Trust Layer. It works like a quality control check for every single AI interaction and is built specifically to counter these dangers.

You can control your agent by grounding it in your official knowledge base articles, product documents, or the real-time information within your Salesforce CRM. This way, you know the agent’s answers are based on facts you have approved.
The Einstein Trust Layer protects your data by masking sensitive information before it leaves the Salesforce ecosystem to consult an external Large Language Model (like those from OpenAI). Because the requests are anonymized, your data is never stored by the third-party model or used to train their AI. Salesforce also ensures that all responses are scanned for toxicity and inappropriateness.

You can use the potential of Agentforce without sacrificing safety, security, or control. More information about security can be found here.

Implementation

Choosing to ignore a tool like Agentforce is not a neutral decision; it is a decision to become less efficient and less responsive than your competition. Customer expectations are being fundamentally reshaped by AI, as they now demand instant answers, 24/7 availability, and deeply personalized interactions. Competitors using Agentforce can meet these demands at scale while your teams are still being overloaded by routine queries and interactions.

Agentforce navigates your business based on the structure of your Salesforce organization. If your setup is a maze of inconsistent data, duplicate records, and poorly defined processes, your AI will be lost, confused, and ineffective.

Without accurate, complete, and accessible data, your AI cannot be trusted to deliver the right answers or take the right actions.

For Agentforce to act (to create a quote, update a support case, or schedule a meeting) it must trigger a reliable, pre-existing automation in your system. If your backend processes are purely manual or chaotic, the AI has no mechanism to execute tasks.
